Puzzle NotesDear subscribers,
Big announcement! Available now is Grids for Good, a collection of 42 original puzzles created by 44 different constructors -- including many on the Inkubator team! -- to raise money for organizations providing coronavirus relief, as well as for groups fighting against institutional racism. Donate at least $10 to get these awesome puzzles, and solve some metapuzzles for a chance to win some swag from us.
The Inkubator is growing editorially (welcome Stella and Juliana!) against a background of pandemic isolation, sudden rest, sudden unrest, and restless movement(s). We are blessed with a queue of puzzles we want to share, a wide array of voices, and perspectives familiar and new. So we're amping up our publication schedule for the rest of 2020. Expect a bumper crop of bonus puzzles in the months ahead.
If you're worried the surplus will cause you to get a little behind on your solving, today's puzzle promises to help you appreciate the new normal. Grab your pen(cil)s, take a seat in your favorite solving spot, and enjoy 'Getting Cheeky,' a playful collaboration by the delightful Jennifer Marra and Caitlin Reid. We think you'll find it lightly challenging.
Caitlin was thrilled when The Inkubator crew played matchmaker and introduced her to Jennifer. In her own words: "Jennifer has fun ideas and was relentless about making our puzzle the best it could be! It was a pleasure to collaborate with her, and I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more from her in the crossworld." Jennifer is an electrical engineer and lapsed triathlete who lives on the water in New Jersey with her husband and two cats. She's transitioned her verbs from solving to constructing crosswords and reading to writing fiction. Look for her puzzles in various newspapers and online, and her fiction on The Medium and shortly in obscure literary magazines and Amazon. In her own words: "I was lucky enough to have Caitlin mentor me in the art of crosswords." Find Jennifer on Twitter at @jmarrabooks and Caitlin at @catybugreid.
When you're done solving, check out Diary of a Crossword Fiend for a write-up and discussion, every Friday after an Inkubator puzzle is published. For general updates, follow us on twitter at @InkubatorXWords, and visit our website. Thanks to all of our subscribers for your continuing support, feedback, and kindness!
Coming up next, on July 8, a bonus from Olivia Framke that's sure to resonate.
