Puzzle Notes

Dear friends,

It's getting toward the end of February, and the hours of daylight are noticeably lengthening, hinting at warmer days to come. Even so, many of us still have icicles hanging from eaves outside our windows, and we can still be found wrapped up in our cozy sweaters enjoying indoor pastimes -- perhaps solving and making puzzles like the talented and enigmatic Martha Kimes has been doing. Here Martha uses the tools of the trade to full advantage in a lightly challenging construction with a no-nonsense title: "It's a Puzzle."

Martha is an intellectual property lawyer, author, tech geek, traveler, and adorer of all dogs. She owns one husband, two children, a golden retriever, a chocolate lab, and a sourdough starter. She lives in Northern Virginia, and her second home is in Seville, Spain. She's longing to go back once this COVID craziness is someday over. Martha's been solving crossword puzzles since the 1990s, but just started constructing last year. Find Martha on Twitter at @marthakimes.

Solvers, if you're ever mystified by an Inkubator theme or if you just want to see what others thought of an Inkubator puzzle, check out Diary of a Crossword Fiend for a write-up and discussion, every Friday after an Inkubator puzzle is published. For general updates, follow us on twitter at @InkubatorXWords, and visit our website. Thanks to all of our subscribers for your continuing support, feedback, and kindness!

Coming up next, on March 11, Brooke Husic and Rachel Fabi bring it on with a 21x21 dose of collaborative brilliance.

With love and gratitude,
