Puzzle NotesDear friends,
A timely announcement! The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament will be held virtually over the weekend of April 23-25, 2021. If you've never been able to attend in person, this is a great chance to try it out.
We're delighted to be publishing a very literary themeless by Annemarie Brethauer. We think you'll find it very challenging!
Despite leaving the study of linguistics for a career in government cable television, Annemarie Brethauer never lost her love of wordplay. Creating documentaries on subjects like zoning codes challenged her to make the most arcane subject matter interesting, a skill which she hopes guides her crossword puzzle construction. Her puzzles have appeared in Games World of Puzzles magazine, the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Los Angeles Times, Universal Syndicate, and USA Today, among other publications.
When you're done solving, check out Diary of a Crossword Fiend for a write-up and discussion, every Friday after an Inkubator puzzle is published. For general updates, follow us on twitter at @InkubatorXWords, and visit our website. Thanks to all of our subscribers for your continuing support, feedback, and kindness!
Coming up next, on April 22: a veritable aviary in black and white from Amanda Rafkin.
